When we are retained by a client and involved in a matter, our approach is always the same: whatever it takes, we do it in service of our client. We don't stand on protocol, we don't make excuses or complain, instead we roll up our sleeves and we do whatever the client needs.
These could sound like empty words, so how about a few concrete examples?
For one thing, if a client needs an expert to strengthen their case or substantiate a claim, we can get involved and both find and contract with an expert on our client's behalf. We've even gone so far as to advance costs to enlist an expert when the client was not in a position to do so. This isn't a requirement, or part of a written contract, and we aren't bound by any rules here--it's just what we feel is the right thing to do.
But our commitment doesn't end there. If a client has materials we need to build their case, but they're in the wrong format, we make reformatting the materials our personal responsibility. If, for any number of reasons, a client needs us to make a house call, we do. If they need materials to be hand delivered, we take them personally. We have even visited clients to witness and notarize documents.
Besides the day-to-day work, we've also helped clients to find lenders and buyers for their businesses. We've even assisted clients by acting as their personal business finder. And those services were rendered at no cost.
Clearly, our dedication to our clients is virtually without bounds or limits. If something needs to be handled then we make sure it's done to the extent that we're able. And that's true whether or not these extras are included in our initial assignment or provided for in our written engagement letter. Once we are involved, we view it as our personal responsibility to handle client needs, even if we aren't directly compensated via additional charges.
In the end, our clients' loyalty, trust in our abilities, and belief in our value are worth more than a few extra nickels and dimes. Isn't that the way you'd like to be treated by a business? It's certainly what we'd hope for. And it's definitely what our clients deserve.
